Since Leiomyosarcoma is such a rare type of cancer, many of
the treatments are done through clinical trials. These are ungoing research studies on treating lms with different drugs,
many of which are still being developed. The clinical trials often look at different medictions, different dosages and
different routes of administration of medications.
You will also notice that there are many different types of trials that are aimed at attacking LMS from different approaches.
Some of the trials are aimed at killing active cancer cells while others deal with stopping the growth of blood vessels that
feed the cancer. Some are looking into vaccines that provide antibodies against cancer cells and some are studying gene therapies.
You can read a description about each trial,
what its goal is, and information on eligibility and locations at www.clinicaltrials.gov. Here you will find a complete up to date listing of the government trials being offered in the both the United States and
in other countries.
Clinical trials are
essential in helping to someday find a cure for LMS. It is also recommended that you discuss any new and upcoming clinical
trials with your sarcoma specialist.
